Summary: |
One of my favorite books----you'll keep going back to visit the past again and again. Includes Biography of Baker (1880-1972) who was Hawaii's premier photographer during the first half of the 20th century. Along with his photos of a lifestyle gone by, Baker also did wartime portraits and soldiers and their sweethearts are presented. Baker was the first civilian photographer to do aerial photography---comparing them to the same sites today is to realize how much change has occurred to this island state. Great photos of the Hawaiian people and their vanishing lifestyles as well a historic sites. Baker documented early Waikiki, work in the plantations and boat days at Honolulu Harbor.
