Summary: "Manna-Mana was gathered and completed for the most part in the year 1972 so it is in fact a mirror of more than 100 persons who lived in Hawaii during that year."

" Selected from hundreds of works, this reprsents a true underground grass roots first hand look at the true Hawaiians."....'...It is 'underground' in the classical sense that it answers to no commercial dogma and that it highlights many heretofore unknown talens. It is not a 'best of Hawaii', nor was any of the nearly 200 pieces of work submitted subjected to any rigid critical guidelines; where is here seemed only to belong here. There is controversy, history, personality, surrealism--there is art, and there is that boundless energy, now captured for all time..."--Carl Lindquist in Introduction. Artists included in this volume: Corky Trinidad, Laka Morton, Guy Buffett, Daws Dawson, Edward Stasack, Freya Saglimbeni, Martin Charlot, Michael Cantrell, Jim Evans, Helen Huhn, Ron Kowalke and more. Outstanding photography by a variety of contributors, some recognizable names----and some recognizable names on the other side of the camera such as Mick Jagger, Carlos Santana and Jimi Hendrix. Poetry from Jean Charlot, Guy Buffett--even Pidgin Poetry by Joe Hadley and excerpts from a poetry anthology written in Oahu Prison. Stories of legends and experiences and non-fiction contributions round out this wide variety of visual and written styles.
